20th Anniversary of National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day

2006 - 2026

March 20, 2026

March 25th is National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day in the United States. In 2026, we mark the 20th anniversary of this important day, which was established in 2006 by families from the non-profit Reaching for the Stars to bring greater attention to cerebral palsy. Despite CP being the most common motor disability in children, there was little to no research for cerebral palsy.

Green was chosen as the color to represent the day to reflect youthfulness and growth, and to continue the tradition of wearing green in March for. St. Patrick' Day.

As the movement grew, the U.S. Senate formally recognized March 25th as National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day in 2013. It will go down in history as Senate Resolution 89 as part of the 113th Congress.

National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day was created not just to “raise awareness,” but to push for real change: more research, better healthcare, earlier diagnosis, stronger services, and more inclusion across the lifespan.

In 2026, National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day marks 20 years since it was established. The anniversary is a moment to celebrate advocates, families, and people with CP who pushed this movement forward, but also to keep demanding progress.
