WFCPC Welcomes Physical Therapist, Nia Toomer-Mensah, PT, DPT, PhD, PCS
The Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center (WFCPC) is delighted to welcome Nia Toomer-Mensah, PT, DPT, PhD, PCS, as Clinical Scientist and Pediatric Physical Therapist.
Dr. Toomer-Mensah brings nearly two decades of experience caring for infants, children, and adolescents with cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities in early intervention, school-based, outpatient, and community settings. A board-certified pediatric clinical specialist, she partners closely with families to promote participation, independence, and quality of life across the lifespan.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr. Toomer-Mensah’s research focuses on increasing physical activity and meaningful participation for children and adolescents with cerebral palsy, particularly those with more significant motor impairments. Her research supports the WFCPC’s efforts in improving how we measure movement in daily life and developing practical, innovative interventions that enhance participation and quality of life for people with cerebral palsy. She has also contributed to research on early motor development and technology-assisted rehabilitation for children with neuromotor conditions.
Dr. Toomer-Mensah earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Southern California and her PhD in Kinesiology at Teachers College, Columbia University. She recently completed postdoctoral training at the University of Southern California, studying new approaches to assessing motor and cognitive development and evaluating multimodal interventions, including dynamic body-weight support, for children with cerebral palsy.
Dr. Toomer-Mensah is also founder of Kusudi International, a nonprofit that expands health and educational opportunities in underserved communities in Ghana. Through medical outreach, local partnerships, and educational programs, the organization reflects her commitment to compassionate, high-quality care for every community.

At the WFCPC, Dr. Toomer-Mensah will provide physical therapy services and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to advance clinical care, education, and research focused on improving participation, mobility, and health outcomes for individuals of all ages living with cerebral palsy. Dr. Toomer-Mensah is available to see patients for evaluation and treatment at the CUIMC Washington Heights campus.
