New Toolkit Provides Resources for Adults with Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy Research Network Launches Adult CP Toolkit

August 27, 2025

The Cerebral Palsy Research Network has released the Adult CP Toolkit, a comprehensive, 172-page resource to support adults living with cerebral palsy and the healthcare providers who care for them. The toolkit addresses a long-standing need for accessible, expert-backed information on the medical, social, and behavioral aspects of adulthood with cerebral palsy (CP).

"This is meant to be a starting point—a reference guide to send you in the right direction and on your way, a companion to consult when you have a question, and a resource you can turn to when you don’t know where else to begin," said Jocelyn Cohen, Vice President of Programs and Operations, Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation.

The Adult CP Toolkit covers a wide range of topics from the transition to adult care through retirement and aging. It provides guidance on health management, social and behavioral well-being, and places a strong emphasis on self-advocacy, reflecting input from both the CP community and clinical experts.

Developed over three years with input from clinicians, researchers, and people living with CP, the toolkit is the first comprehensive resource created specifically for adults with cerebral palsy. It addresses a significant gap for the more than 800,000 U.S. adults with CP, along with their caregivers and providers.

“Our team cares for one of the largest groups of adults with cerebral palsy in the nation, and this toolkit will be a valuable addition to the support we provide,” said Jason B. Carmel, MD, PhD, Executive Director of the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center (WFCPC). “We’re proud to support this effort.”

Jennifer Pimentel, Care & Outreach Coordinator at the WFCPC, added, “We have found the CP Research Network’s toolkits to be practical and accessible, and we often share them with families. This new resource will be especially helpful as we support adults facing the unique challenges of aging with CP.”
