A Record Turnout at CP Community Day 2026

Over 500 attend our third annual event

June 15, 2026

More than 500 members of the cerebral palsy community came together on Saturday, June 6, for CP Community Day 2026, the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center’s largest community event to date.

Held outdoors on Haven Plaza on the Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus, the event brought together individuals with cerebral palsy, families, clinicians, students, researchers, and community organizations for a day of fun, food, and friendship. With more than 30 activities and resource stations, the event offered something for all ages. Activities ranged from live performances and movement workshops to family resources and research participation opportunities.

The day was designed specifically for and with the cerebral palsy community. Many activities were hosted by people or families living with cerebral palsy. Guests had access to health screenings provided by the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine and Columbia’s Programs in Physical Therapy. For students in these programs, the day also offered an opportunity to learn directly from people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities in a community-centered setting.

CP Community Day also featured a growing range of adult and family resources. In previous years, resource stations have included disability dating, schools, and disability grants. This year, the event expanded to include adaptive driving, summer camps and housing support services.

“This is our second year tabling at CP Community Day, and the event is always a valuable experience,” said Wendy De Leon, Director of Housing Services at ADAPT. “One of the most rewarding moments was meeting a three-generation family and realizing our programs could support each generation in different ways, all through one meaningful conversation.”

Adaptive sports were another highlight of the day, including demonstrations by the WSF New York Sled Rangers. Guests also enjoyed performances by Dancing Dreams and Cambridge Common Voices, a neurodiverse chorus that traveled from Cambridge, MA, to join us. Both groups energized the crowd by inviting guests to join in their performances.

Guests also enjoyed food and drinks generously provided by Tony Dragon’s Grille and Katu Botanical Coffee & Tea Mocktails, along with prizes and giveaways made possible through the support of generous sponsors.

CP Community Day first launched in June 2024 with a theme of fun, food, and friendship and a goal of building a stronger, more vibrant cerebral palsy community. That first year, the event welcomed more than 300 guests. Now in its third year, CP Community Day has grown into one of the largest outdoor events dedicated to people with cerebral palsy and their families.

While many CP-related events are academic or clinical in focus, CP Community Day creates a different kind of space, one where families, health professionals, and community organizations can connect, and celebrate together in a community setting.

The Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center extends a special thank you presenting sponsor Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP for helping make CP Community Day 2026 possible.
