In this year’s Lindenauer Lecture, Konrad Kording, PhD, will unpack how modern AI really works, and how clinicians and innovators can use it not just for answers, but as a collaborator to spark new ideas, test assumptions, and strengthen decision-making.
He’ll then look ahead to the future of diagnosis, drawing on his work using video-based AI to detect movement patterns linked to cerebral palsy. From the mechanics of how AI works to the real-world ways it may reshape diagnosis in cerebral palsy and beyond, this talk will explore both the promise, and the hard questions, these technologies raise for medicine.

About the speaker
Konrad Kording, PhD
Penn Integrates Knowledge Professor, University of Pennsylvania
Co-Director, CIFAR Learning in Machines & Brains Program
Dr. Kording is a pioneer of computational neuroscience. He is redefining the boundaries between neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and causal inference. As Penn Integrates Knowledge (PIK) Professor, he leads pioneering research on how brains and AI systems solve the credit assignment problem—determining what actions led to success or failure. His radical perspective that deep learning only makes sense through evolutionary thinking has influenced how the field approaches AI development.
As Co-Director of the CIFAR Learning in Machines & Brains Program, Konrad oversees the collective intellectual development of this prestigious program which includes over 30 Fellows, Advisors, and Global Scholars working to understand the computational and mathematical principles behind learning in both biological and artificial systems. The program brings together international scientists to examine how artificial neural networks could be inspired by the human brain and to advance the field of deep learning.
